Psychedelia is having a comeback. Or at least I think it should. And what modern psychedelic household is complete without a lava lamp? This update to the classic side-table lava lamp is the nicest you’ve ever seen. Solid walnut, glass, mineral-oil water, and lava. It disassembles to accommodate light bulb replacement, and is a hit with the kids aged 4-12.

Doro is the Japanese suffix for a landscape lantern. A lava is the colloquial name for burning hot magma. Hence, the Lava Doro. Kampai!Project: Handcrafted Walnut Lava Lamp

Project: Wipe Here – Re-usable Organic Cloth Napkins with Cherry Wood Napkin Dispenser

Date: December, 2012 – Version 1.0

Re-usable goods are also having a comeback. The culture of trash needs to change, and this product is an attempt offer an alternative to throw-away napkins. Entitled Wipe Here, the set includes 12 organic cloth napkins that are printed with an info-graphic diagram that helps the users refold napkins once they’ve been washed, and re-insert into a spring-loaded, wooden napkin dispenser. Great for the family. Especially nice as a gift.

Innovasis

Project: Traveling Exhibit Design

Spinal implants are small, but the business is big, and Innovasis needed a traveling exhibit that would stand out in it’s industry. With a brand new graphic branding campaign, my task was represent their graphic identity at an architectural scale. Sharp angles and corners, bold colors, impactful lighting, and dynamic three-dimensionalityÂ distinguished this exhibit from it’s competitors, and anecdotally grew interest in Innovasis’ services 10-fold. Pictured here is the exhibit installed within a 20′ x 20′ footprint (it spreads into a 20′ x 40′ footprint as well).

Yolka

Project: Packaging Graphics, Point-Of-Purchase Displays

Date: 2012-2013

As an industrial designer, I was originally approached by Yolka Chocolates to design a 3D flat-packable ‘tree’ to display their beautifully ornate chocolate ornaments (pictured in this post below). This final tree display was so beloved, it led to further opportunities to develop branded content for Yolka products, such as the new chocolate matzo bar. Dictated by the large-flat dimensions of the bar, the final package design referenced the small orderly holes found in unleavened matzo crackers, juxtaposed by Tessa Lindsay’s custom Yolka floral pattern – all which done in gold stamp.

Making logos is fun work. And it seems as though everybody needs one these days. Graphic identity is important for start-ups, non-profits, local businesses, even facebook groups, and I’m happy to indulge in my passion for creating brand identity for most anyone who dares to ask.
